> Citizen Kane
• collection of images fading over one another - montage. } beginning.
• lots of shadows.
• link between music ad visual - as light in building turns off, music turns off.
• ends with the large window and fencing across it. } ending.
• the music is suspenseful, strange in a weird way. } ending.
mystery - not sure of who the person is - their face was in darkness.
relationship between the shadows and darkness.
• the globe falls and smashes
- reflection of lady.
- slow shots with fades in between.
> The Dark Knight
action - revealed through guns, zip-lining on rooves etc.
• masks = scary - hides identity.
• setting up the characters with dialogue.
• props = guns - fear - death - aggression.
• diegetic sound of screaming - arouses alarm in viewer.
• music is intense, building up.
• quick shots - adds to suspense and build.
> Exemption
• closeup of eye - clock edited over it - time passing.
• cutting to black screen for credits - typewriter feel for credits.
• no music at the beginning.
• use of no dialogue.
• "weapons"/props - pens - freaks out, brutal!
• blood all over - resembles/typical of a thriller.
• close-ups - extreme close-ups.
> The First Degree
• close-up.
• camera going in and out of focus.
• canted/Dutch angle.
• hand-held camera.
• music sounds melancholic, sad.
-> constant diegetic sound of footsteps.
• good titles and shots - clear.
• effective blood, looks convincing.
